Who we are
The University of Washington Sailing Team is a competitive club sport that competes in the ICSA Northwest District. Throughout the school year we travel across the United States and to Canada to compete in regattas against other colleges in other districts. We are student-run, student-funded, and student coached but along with the help of our distinguished alumni, are in the process of applying to be a Division I sport here at the University. Our team is growing rapidly and we get a new group of competitive recruits every fall season. Our team qualifies for every Nationals (coed’s, women’s, and team race) every year and has high hopes to continue to dominate in the Northwest, continue to move up in the West and soon travel to the East Coast more than we ever have before.
The team is in the process of creating Friends of Husky Sailing, a group of University of Washington Sailing Team alumni who are committed to seeing the team continue to grow and helping us become more competitive and financially secure. In addition to trying to become a Division I sport at the University, our team is comprised of dedicated sailors who love the sport and want to be the best team we can possibly be - without consistent financial security and a coach, our sailors can't dedicate all of their energy into their sailing, but also have to worry about paying for expenses to get us to regattas, keeping the team organized, and providing all the coaching ourselves. Friends of Husky Sailing will provide the team with the opportunity to dedicate all of our energy into being the best sailors we can be and removing the financial burden off of our shoulders.
